Sone Aluko: Birmingham City have enough for promotion
Sone Aluko has declared that he would be surprised if Blues didn’t win promotion back to the Premier League.
The departed attacker said he had left behind a powerful array of talent.
"I think that Blues will go up, I’d be surprised if they didn’t," said the new Aberdeen purchase.
"When you look at the forwards available, it’s unbelievable for Championship level - James McFadden, Garry O’Connor, Kevin Phillips, Marcus Bent, Cameron Jerome.
"With players like Quincy too, there’s goals possible from all over the pitch.
"If they can keep it tight at the back, which they have done so far, then Blues have got a really good chance."
Aluko, who went on Blues pre-season tour to Austria, said nobody felt they would walk it.
"The lads at Blues know it’s going to be a long, hard season. The Championship is very competitive, tough.
"I think they’ve got some good experience there, which will help, and they’re aware of what to expect, they won’t be taken by surprise."
Aluko said that Alex McLeish wanted more older hands this season, which didn’t help his own cause.
"The manager’s a top guy, I’ve got no problems with him," Aluko stressed. "He told me that was how he wanted to get to the Premier League, through experience, and, to be fair, I think it will work.
"I knew I probably wouldn’t be contributing this season because of the top class squad he’s put together and it would be a longer wait for me.
"But when I decided it was best to move on, he helped me with the transfer and gave me good advice."
