Alex McLeish salutes 'brilliant goal'
JAMES McFadden is coming into his own again, Alex McLeish said.
The Scotland star scored his first goal since March to put Blues on their way to a fine victory at Cardiff.
“It was a brilliant goal, a superb pass inside the full-back to James’ clever run and a clever finish,” said McLeish.
“It was great to see him get off the mark. We need more of the players to contribute with the goals, of course, and James got us off to a flier.
“He did really well, he was disappointed with himself last week, but he looked much sharper Saturday.”
McFadden last scored in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle United (in similar fashion) but then required knee surgery, which reduced his effectiveness when he returned to Blues’ Premier League relegation battle.
“We had James McFadden on fire when he joined the club last season,” remarked McLeish. “He was a class act, causing problems to all the top defences, the Man Citys’ and Spurs’ and Newcastle – then he got that injury and it set him back.
“We never got the real James when he returned and that was a disappointing aspect of the season.
“The beginning of this season there was plenty of speculation about him and I think he was mature enough to shrug that aside.
“But he’s not been as sharp as he can be, Saturday he was right on the button however.”
