Alex McLeish: Stephen Pearson is dangerman

BLUES must be wary of Stephen Pearson tonight, Alex McLeish has warned of the midfielder who should have moved to St Andrew’s.

Blues agreed a £600,000 fee for Pearson during the pre-season tour of Austria, but when he had a medical a groin problem showed up.

McLeish felt he could therefore only take Pearson on loan initially until his fitness was proven and not guarantee the permanent signing that the Scottish international wanted.

So the transfer was put on ice and McLeish proceeded with Kemy Agustien’s loan from AZ Alkmaar.

Pearson had surgery and decided to sit tight at Pride Park and wait for his chance after being overlooked by manager Paul Jewell. He got into the side four games ago and has to be respected, said McLeish, who remains interested in the former Celtic man.

“I know him well and he’s dangerous,” said the Blues boss. “He makes runs off the ball and he’s got a good engine. He’s had that experience in England now as well and he’s one to be wary of.”

As for ex-Blues hero turned villain Robbie Savage, Derby sent a circular to all clubs informing them of his availability on loan.

Unsurprisingly McLeish and Blues do not have Savage in their thoughts, and Jewell said that Brighton have made a firm move but the link with Crewe Alexandra was incorrect as there had been no contact.
