McLeish left purring at winger's ace effort

QUINCY’S goal against Derby last night – capping a swift attack from deep inside Blues’ half – left Alex McLeish purring.

It was his second in as many games and had Derby County reeling.

“It was a terrific goal. It was well worked. We opened up Derby,’’ said McLeish. “The speed of Cameron Jerome, James McFadden’s skills, backed up by Quincy on the flank, we were a threat, and I thought the midfield was terrific.

“I would have liked to have seen us build on that because we got at Derby a wee bit and we looked very dangerous.”

The result, although ultimately a disappointment because of the Rams’ late leveller, kept Blues on Wolves’ toes in the Championship table. And it came after a hard-fought victory at another difficult venue, Cardiff City.

So was McLeish satisfied with a four-point return?

“We might have settled for that because when you look at them, they are very dangerous those two teams,’’ he said. “You think possibly we could lose one, maybe both.

“But the four points out of six haul was decent. We’re a bit gutted it wasn’t six but Derby probably feel the pressure they had in the second half deserved something.”
