Quincy still has the chance to seal Birmingham City future

Quincy passes Christian Kalvenes.

ALEX McLeish has denied that Quincy is playing for his Birmingham City future.

The winger’s loan is due for renewal in January, when Blues can extend the agreement with Spartak Moscow until the season’s end.

Until last weekend, Quincy had been struggling for minutes for a while.

But his two performances against Watford and Plymouth Argyle have come as a timely reminder about his quicksilver qualities.

“I wouldn’t make that judgement,” cautioned McLeish, in relation to the Ghana star being effectively on trial. “It’s an on-going process.

“The whole season [so far], we will take everything into account. As I’ve said before, it’s difficult for foreign lads to come in and settle in straight away.

“I know he speaks English, so that side of it has been perfect for us. But it’s tough for players to adapt immediately here.

“At the start of the campaign he was in fantastic form for us. He drifted a wee bit recently and the last couple of games he’s been really effective and really positive in his progress, especially going up the pitch.”

That ability to dribble at speed and stretch the opposition gives Blues something different to the norm. In short, Quincy can frighten Championship defences to death. “The game last week, at home, he took us up into the last third so many times just with his pace and aggression running forward,” noted McLeish.

“I think we must have forced five or six corners. We didn’t quite get the final ball in, but it put us on the front foot. And if he does that, it’s certainly going to help get us up the pitch.

“He did it again the other night, the second-half especially. He was very productive.
