Star players won't be sold by Birmingham, insists David Sullivan

BIRMINGHAM CITY will not be shipping out star players Sebastian Larsson and James McFadden during the January transfer window.

Co-owner David Sullivan has repeated the club’s firm stance of the summer, saying there has been absolutely no wavering.

The news will be music to the ears of manager Alex McLeish and supporters.

The memory of Matthew Upson’s £6 million sale to West Ham United in the window of 2007 is still raw.

Boss Steve Bruce was furious that the board cashed-in on Upson on the night of the January 30 Southend United game, at the same time as he was addressing the media post-match to stress that the defender was going nowhere. In the end, Blues managed to go on to win promotion, using the Martin Taylor-Radhi Jaidi partnership at the back to good effect.

McLeish (pictured) is not planning for anything other than winger Larsson and forward McFadden being around for the remainder of the campaign.

And bearing in mind the directors’ desire to win back disgruntled supporters, they would be shooting themselves in the foot by authorising any major outgoing transfer.
