So far so good but we have to improve says Birmingham boss Alex McLeish

‘‘We let our guard down and I would have liked to have seen us create more chances, particularly with the striking talent we’ve got at our disposal.

“In the second-half we were more of a threat. We were getting more penetration in the last third, we just didn’t quite get enough chances on goal.”

Blues could have got their noses in front in the 62nd minute, but Kevin Phillips’ header was stopped by Andy Lonergan.

McLeish said: “I don’t think it was so much a turning point.

“Obviously it would have put us ahead and made it much more difficult for them.

“I think the keeper’s stopped it between his legs, and you’ve got to give him credit for that.

“But Kevin does keep scoring goals for us and we need other players to contribute as well.”
