Jon McCarthy: Birmingham City squad is good enough

JON McCarthy reckons Blues’ needs in the January transfer window aren’t too great.

The former winger says perhaps two or three additions could suffice, although Blues have apparently got more on the boil than that.

“I think the squad is strong enough to go on with what Alex McLeish has got, that’s my opinion now based on what I see,” says McCarthy.

“Of course he would love to bring something in. I know he’s signed the lad Keith Fahey, the central midfielder. I don’t know how much a part he will play.

“To freshen things up, you would like to think there will be another couple coming in.

“There’s two right-backs there, Franck Queudrue coming through and doing as well as he has means there’s competition at left-back.

“Strikers, there’s enough there, if somebody – touch wood – doesn’t get a bad injury and is ruled out for the season.

“So there’s the four, plus James McFadden to be able to deal with that situation.
