Setback in Birmingham City's move for Rangers' Kris Boyd

BLUES boss Alex McLeish’s latest transfer dealings have hit a stumbling block.

Rangers striker Kris Boyd was initially due to put the finishing touches on his £3.8million move to Blues today but he was back training with the SPL giants this morning.

Talks between the prolific goal-getter’s agent and Blues’ managing director Karren Brady broke down yesterday over the 25-year-old’s personal terms.

The deal is certainly not dead in the water but there is still a long way to go before Boyd is reunited with his former Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

Elsewhere, West Ham’s Calum Davenport, a centre-back believed to have been on McLeish’s radar, looks to be on the verge of becoming a Bolton player.

But Hammers midfielder Lee Bowyer, as exclusively revealed in yesterday’s Birmingham Mail, is on the verge of a move to St Andrew’s.

Ex-Coventry trainee Davenport looked to be an ideal candidate to become an addition to Blues’ defence but the 26-year-old was in advanced talks with the Trotters yesterday over a £3million move to the Reebok.

McLeish still has plenty of irons in the fire but he will be eager to net SPL top scorer Boyd’s signature.

Blues face a battle to convince Boyd to head south to the West Midlands as the Gers man is not desperate to leave Ibrox for Championship football.
