Birmingham City: McLeish ready for a clear-out

Sebastian Larsson is still struggling with a groin injury, as is Garry O’Connor, and McLeish will also be without the suspended duo of David Murphy and Keith Fahey.

However training has been far from ideal this week due to the freezing weather conditions.

“Because of the conditions we never got out on the grass because the pitches were still rock solid,” added McLeish. “We’ve been using the third generation pitches at the moment. We’ve used Moseley Rugby Football Club this week and it was terrific but it’s astroturf and sometimes the older players find it difficult to train on. So we had a couple of squads down there on Tuesday and Thursday was an aerobic session in the gym.”

Meanwhile Blues could find themselves facing one of their former strikers at Blackpool today.

The Tangerines have signed DJ Campbell on-loan until the end of the season from Leicester City.

Campbell joined Birmingham for an initial £500,000 fee in January 2006 and spent 18 months at St Andrew’s.
