Mick McCarthy: Scott Sinclair isn't better than Michael Kightly

MICK McCarthy has dismissed claims Wolves were beaten to the signature of Blues’ new loan signing Scott Sinclair insisting the Chelsea winger would not have leapfrogged Michael Kightly or Matt Jarvis into his team.

McCarthy is a huge admirer of Sinclair and had previously expressed an interest in him but claims he would not have fought Alex McLeish for the youngster because the best he could offer was a place on the Molineux bench.

Wolves have a good relationship with the staff at Stamford Bridge after the successful loan of defender Michael Mancienne recently but McCarthy claims that deal was only possible because the England Under-21 centre-back played regularly.

McCarthy said: “You can’t really take a player from Chelsea who wouldn’t get in the team straightaway. Sinclair wouldn’t have dislodged Jarvis or Kightly.

“Chelsea don’t ask for any guarantees that someone is going to play – no club does – but of course they don’t want to loan someone out who isn’t going to feature.

“It was a similar situation with Michael Mancienne but their circumstances dictated they needed another player and so they had him back.
