'I'll give you my all,' pledges Birmingham City loan signing Lee Bowyer

LEE BOWYER has pledged to give his everything to the Blues cause.

The on-loan midfielder, signed from West Ham United, said he had no qualms about how he would be received at the club and by supporters.

In June 2005, then manager Steve Bruce’s pursuit of Newcastle United’s Bowyer sparked a huge debate because of concern among some about his off-field history.

An anti-Bowyer internet petition generated a pro-Bowyer petition and Bruce and co-owner David Sullivan hit out at the minority for scuppering their chances of signing him.

In the end, a wary Bowyer rebuffed Blues, even though most supporters made it clear they were not opposed to his incoming transfer.

Three years down the line, Bowyer’s addition to the ranks has not sparked the same sort of controversy.

And he said he just wanted to get on with his job of helping Blues win games – and promotion from the Championship.

“You want to feel wanted,” he reflected. “All I ask for, wherever I go, is just give me a fair chance and the only thing I can then say is that I will give you everything, I will give you my all on every performance that I make.

“That’s all I ask – to be given a fair go, and let everything else happen.”

Bowyer insisted: “The way I am, I give everything in every game and every training session. That will never change.

“If it does, then that’s the time for me to stop
