David Murphy confident Birmingham City are back on track

haven’t started great. I think that’s been our downfall.

“We were at it. Hopefully that’s the bad run of form out of the way because we have been terrible - we haven’t been great at all.

‘‘You can understand the supporters not being happy especially at home. Hopefully Saturday’s result can go towards repairing that.”

Murphy also revealed his game had been helped by the presence of Keith Fahey, a right-footer, on the left flank.

“It was more like it for me against Forest because we had a right-footer on the left-hand side of midfield who liked to go inside,” he added.

“That left space for me to bomb on which I like to do.

“I prefer the fact that he’s not a natural left-winger because they come inside. I enjoyed it and so should Keith after his goal.”

Blues opted to get together for a huddle seconds before Saturday’s kick-off, as did Forest, and Murphy admits it was nothing to do with love being in the air on Valentine’s Day, it was premeditated.

“We’ve been doing a huddle in the warm-up but for a change we decided to get together and have a few words just before the kick-off,’’ he said.

‘‘It did well for us so long may it continue. It was just to get everyone together because it was a massive game and we needed the three points, it looked like it worked.

“If we’ve been poor then the other two (Reading and Wolves) must have been poor for us to still be in the mix.

‘‘We’re just three points behind Wolves with a game in hand so it’s all to play for.”
