Birmingham City striker Kevin Phillips ruled out for up to three weeks with hamstring tear

BLUES’ leading scorer Kevin Phillips will be out of action for around two to three weeks.

The absence of the 13-goal striker is something Blues could well do without as they look to extend a four-game unbeaten run that has taken them back into the Championship automatic promotion frame.

But manager Alex McLeish said he was confident that Blues’ other attackers could pick up the slack.

Phillips came off in the 31st minute of Blues’ victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

“He tweaked his hamstring,” revealed McLeish.

“The scan revealed it was a very small tear. As such they’ve said it was a Grade One tear, which is two or three weeks out.

“Kevin said he’s a quick healer. If he’s back sooner than three weeks, it will be a plus for us.”

With Garry O’Connor still not quite ready after a groin operation and James McFadden (knee) sidelined for another six weeks or so, McLeish will have to juggle his remaining options carefully.

“It’s unfortunate we have these strikers injured,” he said, “but that’s why we signed a few.

“What we  need is those forwards to get us a few goals. I said that before Saturday, and it holds true.
