Birmingham City striker Marcus Bent finds it hard to compete with a legend

“I know that when footballers are playing well then they are talked about in legendary status,” said Bent of Phillips. “If you’re not doing well then you are under a bit of pressure. I’ve been in the game a long time and if people want to criticise me then I’m here with open arms.

cent then it will have an effect on you both at work and in life. I wouldn’t say that we as a team have suffered with a lack of confidence.”

Bent, a veteran of 11 league clubs, says Blues’ strikers have done extra training to up their goal tally while still taking a break from the hectic fixture schedule. “Of course you train harder, you want to better yourself,” he added.

“However sometimes you’ve got to take a step back because this is a busy season and it can get emotionally and physically draining.

“The team is always working hard but individually if you want to do more then you tend to go out and do that. This season has been a bit hard but hopefully it’s getting better.”
