Birmingham City can cope with pressure - Sebastian Larsson

Sebastian Larsson reckons Blues possess the mental toughness to handle the pressure that goes with the high stakes in the Championship.

Larsson went through the mill with Blues in 2006-07 when they fought a three-way battle with Sunderland and Derby County for the top two automatic promotion places.

Blues held their nerve then when it came down to the nitty gritty and with this season’s scrap shaping up in similar vein, he says they are a good bet.

“I think so. We have got a lot of experience in there. And I’m telling you, the games are becoming high pressure games now, there’s a lot of nervousness, so let’s see who can handle it the best – and I fancy us to do it.

“It’s up to us to show it. I’m not going to say we were happy with the Barnsley result and performance, but at the same time we played away, things stayed as they were in the league, and Cardiff lost, so let’s push on for Saturday.”

Blues travel to Doncaster Rovers (5.20pm kick-off) for a live televised match.

And Larsson says it’s about time they recovered the winning habit on the road.

“The main thing now is that we have to get confident away from home because at home I wouldn’t want to be another team coming to St Andrew’s at the moment.

“The next step from there is to bring that to the away games.

“We are unbeaten in three and hopefully we can get a few of the lads back because it’s been a tough schedule. We had Garry O’Connor on the bench at Barnsley, and hopefully a couple of others are close as well.”
