Birmingham City can now win the title says Alex McLeish

Alex McLeish vents his fury at the players during the first-half.

Goals by Cameron Jerome – his first in 20 games – and Hameur Bouazza decided the Keepmoat fixture by half-time.

Blues showed a ruthless efficiency in recording a third success in four matches, their best sequence since the beginning of December.

McLeish praised Jerome, who has been manfully soldiering on up front since Christmas for scant reward.

“It was a peach of a header from Cameron and I said to the coaching staff on Friday that if anyone deserved a goal for his recent efforts, it was him,’ said McLeish.

“I said to the big fella before the game that once he gets one, he will be on a roll, so hopefully that’s the start of a run for Cameron goalswise.

“Cameron has made so many chances for himself in recent weeks and he’s maybe not a natural goalscorer, but he certainly has deserved a goal.

“It was great to see him using that power and pace he possesses and he showed great ability to spring from a standing jump to plant a beautiful header into the top corner.

“I’ve not seen that for a while. He missed a header at Crystal Palace the other week but that shows you perseverance is the key.”
