Birmingham City: Radhi Jaidi must wait to see if Blues offer a new deal

RADHI Jaidi is sweating over a new deal with Blues.

The towering Tunisian centre-back’s initial three-year contract at St Andrew’s is up at the end of the season and as yet a new one hasn’t been placed on the table.

New contracts or renewed deals are likely to be sorted out when Blues’ promotion fate is decided in May. Jaidi’s compatriot, Mehdi Nafti, is also out of contract in the summer but it is fair to say that the out-of-favour midfielder knows he won’t remain at the club, whether or not Blues gain promotion back to the Premier League.

However, Jaidi, who was signed for £2million from Bolton in August 2006, is eager to remain at Blues beyond this season as he and his family now call the Second City home.

The North African was a key member of Blues’ back-line during the 2006/07 promotion season to the top flight. However, during the last two seasons, Jaidi’s time in the first team has been regularly broken up by spells out of the side due to loss of form or tiredness. At the moment Jaidi, who has made almost 90 appearances for Blues, is one of only four specialist centre-backs on

Alex McLeish’s permanent staff, including out-on-loan youngster Krystian Pearce.
