Garry O'Connor: I was ring rusty on Birmingham City return
GARRY O’Connor admitted he was ring rusty on his return to starting action for Blues.
O’Connor played for 69 minutes on Saturday after being given the nod for the XI for the first time since the end of October.
Kevin Phillips, who was also included after injury, replaced O’Connor as Blues drew 1-1 with Norwich City.
“I have been looking sharp in training, Saturday I felt I was a little bit off the pace but that will come,” said O’Connor.
“I was a bit tired in the second-half. The gaffer was trying to give me as long as possible, he was trying to get me back in the fold.
“I felt I did a lot of running, got into the game quite well, but it was disappointing for us because we should be winning these games if we want to win the league.
“I need to play matches and matches at this level to get back to where I left off last time.
“That was 70 minutes under my belt and hopefully I can keep progressing.”
Carlos Costly was the fall guy, not making the 16, due to Phillips’ recall.
And with Marcus Bent on the mend after a hamstring tear and James McFadden stepping up his training after knee surgery, there will be more options very soon.
