Birmingham City are obsessed with title - Carsley

LEE Carsley has urged Blues to make every remaining game a cup final in the Championship and try to ‘over-power’ the opposition.

The captain stressed he and his team-mates were ‘obsessed’ about winning the title and achieving automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Carsley said Blues had picked up the slack a little bit in recent weeks and should go into Monday’s vital derby at home to Wolves in good heart.

“Our approach to that game will be the same as it has been all season, with the same intensity,” the midfielder said.

“Over the last five or six weeks we’ve changed our style a bit, we’ve gone a lot more direct, which has helped us on the pitch we play on.

“We’ve created a lot more chances and scored a few more goals. We’re not going to pass teams off the park, but [we can] over-run them and over-power them.

“Every game left is a cup final and we have to start by beating Wolves and then the others we’ve got left to play if we are to go up.”

Carsley was speaking at a Banks’s celebrity football forum, to be broadcast on 1152 Gold radio on Friday (7pm).

He told an audience of 600 at the Austin Sports & Social Club, Longbridge, that when he signed on a free transfer from Everton in the summer it was with designs on lifting silverware.

Wolves top the table with 77 points to Blues’ 72, a gap that was not insurmountable.

“I have to keep checking the league table to make sure we’re second because there is a lot of pessimism surrounding the club,” he admitted.
