Birmingham City are obsessed with title - Carsley

“It’s important that the fans and players stick together because it’s a lot easier to do it with the fans help.

“I look over our team and I believe we have more quality and we are better than anyone. We haven’t always played the best, we haven’t always produced the best football, but the lads have always given 100 per cent and no-one can knock them for that.”

“When I spoke to the gaffer in the summer, I told him that I wanted to win, I wanted us to go up as Champions,” he added.

“When I wake up in the morning I think about it, when I go to sleep at night I think about it.

“A lot of players are obsessed about wanting to go up as Champions. Yes, that might put more pressure on us, but that’s what we’re here for.”

Asked about prospects next season should Blues secure promotion, and whether the squad as it stands was good enough to compete in the top-flight, Carsley’s assessment was frank.

“I think when you get promotion you need to spend some money,” he stated.

“Not so much big time but every season you need to add players who make the fans stand up and think ‘yeah, we’ve got a chance here’.”

Defender Franck Queudrue, who was also quizzed alongside Carsley at the forum, added: “First of all, we would need to keep our best players. You need to keep them happy at this club.”
