Taylor: Birmingham City are about to hit form for the title
Apr 8 2009 by Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail
MAIK Taylor has got a familiar feeling – something’s stirring down at St Andrew’s.
Two years ago when Blues last won promotion from the Championship, they hit form just at the right time.
Although Taylor had then been deposed by Colin Doyle, he admitted that there were parallels.
Blues, after back-to-back Easter defeats, won four straight and only missed out on the title by failing to take their chances at Preston North End on the final day, where they lost 1-0.
Defeat of Wolves has made it four wins and two draws from Blues last six matches and but for a ridiculous penalty award for Sheffield United (1-2) and howlers in front of goal at Crystal Palace (0-0), they would be even better off.
So have Blues got something going, is it like the run-in 2007?
“I believe so,” said Taylor. “If anything, we are probably controlling games a little bit more than we did then.
“We were fortunate at times, I think things went for us, even though we weren’t always playing particularly well at that stage.
“We are playing well now and dominating games a lot more, playing off the front foot as the manager and everyone wants.
“I think we are dictating games for longer periods. We feel very confident at the moment and the win over Wolves was a huge, huge result on the back of the way things went at the weekend.
“With Sheffield United having their game in hand last night and then playing Reading on Friday, it was so important for us to win.
“We’ve now put a little bit more pressure on Wolves, we can start asking questions of them, and we are looking forward to the remaining games.”
The Blades last night dramatically beat Barnsley 2-1 - the Tykes missed an 89th minute penalty before scoring - and are thus three points behind Blues.
