Birmingham City inspired after sending off says Alex McLeish
Alex McLeish said Blues went for it after Maik Taylor’s sending-off.
That decision compounded by Paul Gallagher’s subsequent goal from the penalty spot meant Blues were staring defeat by Plymouth Argyle in the face.
“We changed the formula, we had a wee bit of a debate to get Colin Doyle on the pitch, to get somebody off [Keith Fahey was substituted],” said McLeish.
“We went brave, courageous, staying with the two strikers. Normally we’d take a striker and go with one up.
“Probably everyone expected that anyway - maybe I’m patting myself on the back too much here - but we went with two up and three in the middle, which was a hard shift for them.
“We asked the full-backs to get forward but at the same time come back and defend.
“They were out on their feet in the dressing room at the end, and I have got nothing but high praise for these lads, they were fantastic.
