Birmingham City to appeal against Maik Taylor red card
Birmingham City are to appeal Maik Taylor’s red card against Plymouth Argyle, citing wrongful dismissal.
Taylor was sent-off in the 23rd minute after a collision with Jamie Mackie.
It was a highly controversial decision by novice referee Michael Oliver.
“I’ve only seen one angle and it’s not even in the box first and foremost which means it’s not a penalty,” said manager Alex McLeish.
“Maik thinks that he kicked it off the lad, it was a 50-50 ball, the two of them went for it and, with the momentum, you can’t avoid anybody that close in on a challenge. So we will be claiming wrongful dismissal, we will be appealing.
“The referee has not said a thing about it and we’ve not had his report, our club secretary is waiting on it. It is not violent conduct, absolutely not. Violent conduct would be ludicrous and I don’t know why anybody would even claim that.
“It was a 50-50 ball. It was a case of who get it first. Was it even a booking?
