Birmingham City boss in rally call to fans

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish sounded a defiant rallying call when addressing the audience at the club's annual award dinner.

McLeish told the gathering at the ICC that Blues shouldn't dwell on what could and should have been, but embrace the present and don't be afraid.

Not for McLeish was a pessimistic view of their task in the remaining three Championship games.

"There's no point in talking about bad luck in terms of injuries or refereeing decisions, it is what it is," he said.

"It's time for everyone of Blues colour to believe.

"Every other team below us would love to be in the position we are in.

"Whatever trepidation you're feeling, whatever nerves, everybody else is thinking and feeling exactly the same.

"Now it's about belief and bottle - and we have plenty of that. Big hearts, yes."

Throughout the evening videos of great Blues goals and names of the past were relayed to the dinners on the big screens in the cavenous function hall.

McLeish picked up the theme: "It's tremendous to see footage of these Blues legends, scoring great goals.
