Birmingham City boss faces a 'happy problem'
“I was mindful that if he wasn’t going to be in the 16 on a Saturday, I gave him early warning and allowed him to train instead.
“He’s a meticulous wee pro, and all that preparation and dedication has stood him in good stead.
“I always said - although I didn’t imagine the circumstances, with Lee’s sending-off - that Damien was always a possible replacement for Lee in midfield through injury.
“I felt there would still be an opportunity for him to play a part when the time was right and in the last three games you can’t fault him.
“Who do I pick now, it’s a happy problem.
“Yes, somebody is going to be disappointed. But the one thing, through all that disappointment, is that the players have accepted this is the way it is. They have realised it’s for the bigger picture.”
