Terry Westley has promised that Blues will be measured not manic in tonight’s tough task in the FA Youth Cup semi-final.
Blues under-18s go to Anfield trailing Liverpool 3-0 from the first leg (7.45pm).
Westley, who could slightly alter the shape of the team to include an extra midfielder, at least initially, also said that there was a feeling Blues had
let themselves down with their performance at St Andrew’s.
“We’ve got to be sensible,” said the Academy manager. “If we are all gung-ho to try and get three goals back, then we will be too wide open and I can see them scoring.
“We are looking at the game in batches, if you like, of four 22-minute periods.
“If it’s 0-0 after the first quarter, then we’re on target. If we score in the remaining 22 minutes of the first-half, if we nick a goal, then we will take that. In the third period, if we score, then it could be a very interesting tie.”
Pointing to the other semi-final, which Arsenal edged 2-1 at Manchester City at the Eastlands fixture, Westley said: “Manchester were in the game after the first leg. After 30 minutes in the return at Arsenal on Wednesday they were 4-0 down [they eventually lost 4-1]. All the preparation and hard work was finished.”
