Lee Carsley wants to see good resources for Birmingham City

“There’s a good atmosphere going around, there’s a lot of positive vibes, everyone is looking forward to next season and it’s important that, now we’ve gained this momentum, we keep it going.
“We need to get some consistency into the club. I’m sure the fans are sick of seeing it (the club yo-yoing out of the Premier League) and it’s definitely not something I want to be involved in.
“I wanted to get the club out of the Championship, I’ve done that and now I want to try and help stabilise the club. It’s definitely got to be a long term plan, the club needs investing on and off the pitch and it’s important now that you bring the right quality of player in.
“Not necessarily flair players and superstars, we just need good quality Premier League players who can play at this level. I think it would be fair to say that the whole squad needs an overhaul.
“This is a Premier League club with a Premier League fanbase. They’ve got a good stadium and everything is geared towards the Premier League so that is the place to be.”
Carsley, who still harbours hopes of earning a recall for the Republic of Ireland, has one-year left on his contract at St Andrew’s but refuses to look beyond next season.
The Sheldon-born leader admits that he is happy with life at his home city club but insists that he’d only consider extended his stay at the Blues if he still felt that he had something to contribute to the cause.
“I’m hoping that we stay in the Premier League, I’ve been saying for the last two or three years that I’ll take it season by season and as we stand at the minute I still feel strong, I’m looking forward to having a break but I’m still enjoying my football. It has been a difficult season but I’m still enjoying playing for Blues,” added Carsley.
“I’ve been quite lucky with injuries but it (his future) is down to the manager, it’s important that you don’t out stay your welcome at a club but if I’ve still got something to add to the team and the club then I’ll keep playing as long as the gaffer wants.”
