Birmingham City eye catcher Hart as Doyle replacement

Colin Doyle

COLIN Doyle is likely to be released on a season-long loan, paving the way for a new goalkeeper at Blues.

Manchester City’s Joe Hart appears to be the top target of manager Alex McLeish, also on a loan.

Doyle is itching for regular football and knows he would be understudy to Maik Taylor in the Premier League. In turn, McLeish has been checking the market for quality competition, if not a top-flight replacement, for Taylor.

Doyle has indicated he would be willing to join a Championship club next season, and it’s not just Swansea City who are keen.

Cardiff City were sniffing around before snapping up David Marshall from Norwich City.

Doncaster Rovers and, although they were knocked out of the League One play-offs last night, Leeds United are also likely suitors.

Swansea’s need seems greatest as Dorus de Vries has rejected a new two-year contract and is set to leave the club on a free transfer.
