We won't be Premier League whipping boys says Liam Ridgewell

Liam Ridgewell

LIAM Ridgewell has vowed Blues won’t be anyone’s fall guys in the Premier League next season.

And the vice-captain backed manager Alex McLeish to come up with the goods during a summer overhaul of the squad.

Ridgewell’s first season at Blues following a £2million move from Villa was a turbulent one: the sale of the club collapsed, Steve Bruce left and relegation was the final outcome in 2007-08.

“I’m still bitter about going down, by just a single point as well,” said the centre-half. “We’ve got to make sure that it doesn’t happen again and I’m positive it won’t.

“It was a funny old season with all the uncertainty and change but I felt we just had enough.

“So there’s lessons to be learned and I know that for myself and other lads who endured relegation, it’s something we don’t want to go through again. We will be really determined to do a lot better.”
