Standard Liege plea to hold on to Birmingham City target Oguchi Onyewu

STANDARD Liege have made a last-ditch bid to keep Blues target Oguchi Onyewu – with the lure of Champions League football.
The Belgian champions have broached the idea of handing the American centre-back a short-term contract until January.
Standard are desperate to keep their defensive lynchpin in a bid to strengthen their efforts in the money-spinning Champions League, which they have qualified to enter at the group stages.
If Oguchi, whose current contract expires at the end of the month, were to decide to take his stay in Liege into a sixth season then that would see him through the entirety of Standard’s campaign in the group stages.
