Birmingham City's Scott Dann is ready for the top-flight

Scott Dann

Scott Dann today insisted that stepping up into the Premier League held no fears.

Birmingham City's £3.5 recruit from Coventry City said it was a task that he was relishing.

Dann’s rise from Sunday league in Liverpool to top-flight football - via Walsall, Denmark, Redditch and Hednesford along the way - has been steep.

And the former Sky Blues captain has only just passed 100 league appearances.

“I don’t think you should fear it,” he said, speaking for the first time since his transfer.

“Obviously you want to prove yourself against the top players and I’ve got the chance to do that now. I think even though I’ve worked so hard to get here, the real hard work starts now for me.”

“Yes, it’s a big step to the Premier League - and it’s one I wanted,” he added.

Coventry manager Chris Coleman stated that he felt the move had come a year too early for Dann, 22.

“You can say that, but you never know until you take the chance,” Dann responded. “And, who knows, the chance may never come round again.

“Maybe it might be a bit too early but I am confident in my own ability and I want to come here and prove myself and play against the best week in, week out.

“It was a chance I had to take and I jumped at it.”
