Gary McSheffrey to get Birmingham City career back on track
GARY McSHEFFREY is looking to rekindle his Blues career after finally getting over a niggling knee injury.
The 26-year-old’s last season was hampered by the problem but he is now excited about having another crack at the Premier League and showing manager Alex McLeish that he is the best man for the wide left spot at St Andrew's.
“Hopefully I can get a good pre-season under my belt and take it from there and see what happens,” said the former Coventry City favourite, who missed five months due to tendonitis and finally had surgery in April.
“I like to think it is a clean slate and I feel I am the best man at the club to do the job at left midfield, so that’s the aim.
“I had a good first season at Birmingham. My first four months was probably my best period of my career. We were top of the league and we created and scored a lot of goals.
"But in the Premiership the onus was on not losing rather than, if we let in two in the Championship we will win 3-2, so we were trying not to concede first and that can totally take your offensive players out of the game.
