Alex McLeish denies Birmingham City have targeted £4m-rated Stephen Hunt

ALEX McLeish has scotched suggestions that Blues were about to launch a £4 million raid for Reading winger Stephen Hunt.

“It’s not true. I am not about to sign anybody at the moment,’’ he said.

‘‘We’ve got to count our pennies and I don’t really want to talk about players on other teams or I might get into trouble with the authorities. But, of course, Hunt is a good player.”

McLeish has gone on record saying that he would like to add a young, dynamic midfielder to the ranks and Villa’s Craig Gardner would be a favoured choice.

Arsenal defender Armand Traore, on loan, remains of interest but the decision on his future rests with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.
