Gregory Vignal could be the answer to Blues problem position of left-back, Alex McLeish has admitted.

The 27-year-old made his debut in the goal less draw against Sporting Gijon and turned in a 'strong' performance, the manager said.

Vignal, who won the SPL title and League Cup with Rangers under McLeish, put himself forward for a trial at Blues.

McLeish said he was still RC Lens' player, but was available for a nominal fee.

"Gregory definitely showed all his experience," said McLeish. "I know what he can bring us and he didn't do himself any harm against Sporting.

"He's still with Lens in France and I need to weigh up the situation and other options because before I knew about his availability we inquired about one or two other things, so out of courtesy I probably have to see them through.

"But Gregory did his chances no harm at all with a strong performance.

"To sign him, I don't think it would hurt us too much financially . . . unless Gregory is looking for a hundred grand a week!"
