The Tom Ross Column: Carson Yeung - why have you bought Birmingham City?

Carson Yeung

IN ALL my years of covering West Midlands football here on BRMB, I cannot remember a takeover that split the fans right down the middle like the Carson Yeung one is doing at Blues.

Fifty per cent are delighted and believe he will be great for the club while the other half want David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady to stay.

Messrs Gold and Sullivan continuing to own the club is definitely not an option as the deal with Yeung’s Hong Kong-based company Grandtop is all but done and dusted.

He has lodged the £57 million needed to complete the buy-out with the bank but needs to make a written offer to the remaining shareholders before the deal can be officially put to bed.

However, it’s a done deal with the only proviso that Yeung passes the FA Premier league’s “fit and proper person” test.

The big question on supporters’ lips is: Will Yeung be good for Blues? Who knows?

His first press conference in Hong Kong sent out a few alarm bells when he talked about having already spoken to some potential new players.

The worrying thing is that manager Alex McLeish knew nothing about this.

He also made it clear that fomer Liverpool and England midfielder Steve McManaman would have a role at Blues. Just what that role is no one at the club knows.
