Birmingham City: Defender Stuart Parnaby happy to be back after injury run

“But I’ve had a good pre-season under my belt and hopefully I will keep myself OK and continue to make a contribution.”

With Vignal possibly fit for today’s match at Spurs, Parnaby could be demoted to the substitutes’ bench once more.

But as part of a defensive unit that has perhaps exceeded expectations, he can take pride.

“So far we’ve done what we’ve had to do,” he said. “Two clean sheets at home, what more can you ask for really?

“At Manchester United we conceded just one goal, but you can’t really moan about that.

“We have just got to keep doing that and give the lads as much opportunity of winning games as we can. Then we’ve got half a chance.”

Parnaby was part of Blues’ last Premier League adventure, which ended in the failure of relegation.

He reflected: “We had the change of manager halfway through the season, which is never great.

“We’ve had the gaffer in for a while now. He knows where he wants to go, how he wants to play and hopefully that has bedded in now. We’ve got a goal to stay up and we’ve got the players to do that .”
