Birmingham City v Aston Villa is huge says Queudrue

Franck Queudrue

FRANCK Queudrue has singled out the Birmingham City v Aston Villa derby as his team’s biggest game of the season.

And the enigmatic Frenchman warned Sunday’s referee Howard Webb that he would struggle to keep 11 players on the pitch from either side.

Colin Tattum will be live online at 12pm today for a live Q&A with fans ahead of the big game - www.birminghammail.net/live

It’s not so much that Queudrue was predicting the noon showdown would be a dirty affair, just intensely passionate with a red card or two coming as no surprise should it boil over.

“We all know exactly how the fans feel about this,” said Queudrue, who has yet to experience a Second City derby but watched both affairs in 2007-08 excluded from the 16.

“They are on at us all the time about beating Villa, and it is certainly our biggest game of the season. You can talk about Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool coming to St Andrew’s but no, this game is more important.

“The fans have passion for it, and as players you must have that passion too, and we have.

“It’s about who wins the duels, the single battles, without being silly of course, in a good way. That’s who will get the game.

“But the referee is going to have a tough job, he could have a problem keeping 11 on the pitch from us and them!”

Queudrue has locked horns locally for Lens against Lille in France, for Middlesbrough against the other North East clubs and in the Chelsea-Fulham west London affair.

“I didn’t play against Villa last time, and that 5-1 game was terrible. But we were relegated soon after that. We have a different team now.”
