Birmingham City: Carson Yeung tipped to start throwing money at Blues

“But I think he will throw some money at it, buy some players and everything he has been saying seems sensible to me.

“Karren Brady is leaving and he is looking for a football person to take over from her. It’s all very, very sensible things.

“We recommended the offer to shareholders because it’s a fantastic offer for them and the supporters.

“I would be amazed if he doesn’t improve things, in the short term at least. In the long term, only time will tell.

“Supporters have got to get behind him and back him.

“If people feel welcome, they will throw more money at it. If they feel unwelcome, they won’t. A lot of it is in the supporters’ hands.”

Tapping into the Asian market was central to Yeung’s thinking, said Sullivan.

He pointed to Liverpool’s £80million shirt sponsorship with Standard Chartered Bank, who have significant operations in the region.

“It could well be, if all the promises made to us are fulfilled, very exciting,” he said.

“Birmingham is going to become a world brand, very famous in the Far East, and should attract a lot of money from that region.

“With Chinese owning the club that’s very possible, it would be far easier to realise the financial rewards out there.

“Look at Liverpool with their sponsorship deal. Unbelievable. But it shows the market.”

Sullivan added: “He’s definitely got the money. It exists, the deal’s all done, and he has backers as well as his own personal fortune.

“By bringing in more money from the Far East too it should help make Birmingham more competitive in the transfer market. I’m sure he will spend a lot of money in January which, hand on heart, we couldn’t have afforded to spend.”
