David Gold's future under the new regime at Birmingham City has been thrown into doubt

CARSON Yeung could make a complete break with the old Blues regime as fresh uncertainty surrounded the future of David Gold today.

Yeung has completed his £81.5 million takeover after Grandtop International Holdings snared 94 per cent of the issued share capital.

The Hong Kong tycoon will fly into Birmingham next week to formally be unveiled as the new St Andrew’s power. And he is certain to hold talks with Gold about his proposed role in the new regime.

Yeung and his associates had made it clear they wanted Gold to stay on and the chairman showed enthusiasm towards their overtures.

A week last Friday, he met with Sammy Yu and Peter Pannu and both parties were encouraged that an accord could be finalised.

Gold went as far as saying he was ‘very, very impressed’ by two of Yeung’s key personnel and predicted the board were handing over to a group who could take the club on to new levels.

But the disclosure of Karren Brady’s incredible £1 million parting bonus and perks bonanza could backfire on Gold.

The controversial sum, plus other benefits like the use of the best executive box at St Andrew’s for 12 months at the club’s expense, has increasingly become a sore point with Yeung and his backers.

It was agreed by the out-going directors, including Gold, and according to the club’s response document to Yeung’s offer, an amendment to Brady’s service agreement was made only a year ago.
