Karren Brady's view on the Birmingham City managers

KARREN Brady produced an ‘A to Z’ of Blues in her entertaining and sometimes controversial national newspaper column.

She gave her appraisal of four of the managers during her 16½ years in the Blues hot-seat.

They were all portrayed in a good light ... but can you guess which one did an MP with his expenses?

Brady wrote:

B is for BARRY FRY.

He could be ever-such-a-fraction uncouth and I was always falling out with Barry but I love him.

I once offered a non-league player £300 a week. He agreed until Barry piped up: “She’ll pay at least double.” If looks could kill!

F is for FRANCIS.

Trevor Francis brought with him the mantle of making his debut for us at 16 and getting sold to Forest as the first £1 million player.

It would be a lie to say we got on famously when he was boss. But I thank him for setting high standards in every way.

M is for McLEISH.

I was surprised to find Alex McLeish the most ambitious manager I’ve known.

Rational and deep-thinking, he was an excellent choice to follow Steve Bruce. He has sound judgment and the players like his calm manner.

S is for STEVE BRUCE.

My favourite Blues boss, not just because he led us into the Prem for the first time but because he’s a man’s man.

No sulks, just gets on with it. He never put in a single expenses form. Another claimed a £6.50 taxi from the station.
