Birmingham City owner prepared to spend big
Carson Yeung
CARSON Yeung is prepared to spend what it takes on the right kind of quality player in January’s transfer window.
One of his chief aides, Sammy Yu, revealed that the Hong Kong tycoon would back Alex McLeish for a top-notch addition ‘no matter how much’.
McLeish has met with Yu, the vice-chairman football of Yeung’s regime, and is keen to secure at least three significant signings when trading resumes.
Departed Blues chief David Sullivan admitted he would be surprised if Yeung didn’t ‘throw money at it’ and make up to £15 million available.
However, that figure was based on an educated guess and Yu revealed that Yeung is set to shed more light on the kind of financial muscle McLeish could flex when he takes centre stage at a media conference to launch the new Chinese-owned era tomorrow.
"But I can always tell you that, if needed, if we find the player and he can definitely contribute to the team, no matter how much, Carson will back [the signing],’’ declared Yu.
