£80m pledge to help make Birmingham City the next Manchester United

Sammy Yu.

Sammy Yu today insisted that Carson Yeung would make good on his incredible £80 million pledge to Blues.

Blues new owner Yeung stunned a packed press conference to launch his reign by revealing that he would make between £20 million - £40 million available for players in the January transfer window.

And Yeung later followed-up the bombshell by disclosing that ANOTHER sum of at least £40 million would be waiting in the summer for manager Alex McLeish.

The Hong Kong entrepreneur, who has taken the title of Blues president, said that he wanted the club to be on a par with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Yu said: “Carson is a man who will keep his word. So that is a signal, officially from Carson, to everyone.

“He does not say these things lightly. What he says, he means.”

It was clarified that the figure mentioned in the press conference was for transfer fees and wages.
