Birmingham City boss has no issues with Sammy Yu's tracksuit request
Sammy Yu.
Alex McLeish has insisted that the training ground presence of Sammy Yu would not be a problem.
Yu, Blues vice-chairman football, is to be based at the Wast Hills facility in West Heath and not at St Andrew’s.
And the former non-leaguer and coach of Hong Kong has already asked for, and received, a club tracksuit and cast his eye over McLeish’s sessions.
Inevitably, is raises the spectre Yu himself getting involved in training and coaching, as well as player recruitment, with the latter a main part of his brief from Carson Yeung.
“I think there will be a base here for the board, if they want to visit the training ground,” said McLeish, speaking from Wast Hills during final preparations for the Arsenal game.
“Sammy Yu has indicated that he will work closely with me. I’m up at the training ground every day so if Sammy’s going to be up here too, that’s fine.
“But I’m sure he will be back and forth between here and St Andrew’s as well.”
Colin Tattum and Andy Walker will be live online at The Emirates for match coverage and banter of Arsenal v Birmingham City. Join them and Bluenoses all over the world at 2.30pm tomorrow at www.birminghammail.net/live
As for the tracksuit, McLeish shrugged: “My chief scout wears fatigues, so why shouldn’t Sammy wear fatigues?
“He doesn’t want to be walking up the training ground with his suit and his shoes on.
“He’s part of the big picture here and there’s no reason why he can’t have a tracksuit on . . . as long as he doesn’t take the training.”
