Tainio is happy with Birmingham City formation

Teemu Tainio

TEEMU Tainio has declared that Blues’ formation flexibility was a big plus.

Much debate has centred on Alex McLeish’s line-ups this season, the 4-5-1 or 4-4-2.

For Tainio, Blues were comfortable using any system.

“This season we have played very well and against Sunderland we created a lot, more chances than we have before,” said the midfielder.

“It was different. With two strikers it gives you a bit more going forward.

“But every game is a little different. I think the manager has a plan for that.

“I don’t really mind what system we play. I think the manager has the dilemma now; does he play with 4-4-2 or 4-5-1?

“Like I said before, every game is a different story. Sometimes five in the middle can better, sometimes two strikers.

“The good thing is that we can play either and now, with everybody coming back from injury, he has a lot of options.”

Tainio was ineligible last Saturday as he is on loan from Sunderland.

He hopes to be involved this weekend, subject to a knee problem clearing up.

Manchester City visit St Andrew’s on Sunday and Tainio said Blues were bubbling.

“If you play a good game and you win, then you have to take things from that into the next game,’ he said.

“So we have to build on the last result.. It’s very important for us. They want to be one of the top four teams in the Premier League, so it will be hard. But we are feeling good.”
