Birmingham City: McLeish is backed by Vignal

GREGORY Vignal today expressed support for Alex McLeish in the wake of rumours about his job.

Blues flatly denied that former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier would be joining to assist and advise McLeish.

And Vignal said it was daft to even consider moving McLeish aside.

The Houllier link surfaced in Hong Kong due to Carson Yeung’s friendship with Steve McManaman, another former Anfield charge of the Frenchman.

Vignal, who was signed by Houllier for Liverpool, said: “I’m sure he would want to come back to English football.

“He loves it so much but I think Gerard has a dream to come back to Liverpool because he won everything there but the title.

“He built everything there. He got a new training ground, brought on players like Carragher and Stevie G. So I’m sure he’s looking at that.
