Alex McLeish hails Birmingham City team spirit

Alex McLeish

ALEX McLeish hopes that it is healthy team spirit – and not Carson Yeung’s cash – that is bringing out the best in his Blues players.

Following the arrival of the new regime, McLeish’s men have hit a run of form and impressed with their performances along the way.

Plenty of promises have been made about activity in the January transfer window and several Blues stars may be getting jittery about their place in the team.

Star names such as Andriy Shevchenko have been speculated, and rubbished, by McLeish this week and that is likely to continue for the rest of 2009.

Whether it is the threat of new blood or the desire to produce the goods for the team, something seems to have worked in recent weeks.

And McLeish is hopeful it is the latter that has spurred his troops on.

“Has the talk of January signings brought out their best? I don’t know. I would like to think it is the motivation and spirit that myself and my staff have created,” said the Blues boss.
