Alex McLeish hails Birmingham City team spirit

“That, allied to the fact we have got a lot of really good blokes in that dressing room who care about it and want to be better.

“If that (January) has added an extra per cent to it, then all well and good. We are always looking for an extra per cent here and there. We’ve got fitness coaches, physios, everything helps.

“What I have in the dressing room is a pretty good spirit and a good mentality of a bunch of players who like to snarl at times when things are not going well for them.

“I like to see a bit of the peer pressure at times but without it being bullying in the playground but we have a good spirit in the dressing room and we have got to maintain that.”

The new board helped to harness that team spirit by taking the Blues first-team squad, McLeish and his staff out for a Chinese meal on Monday night.

It was an opportunity for the players to familiarise themselves with Yeung’s people in an informal setting.

And McLeish believes that the event highlights the current atmosphere around the club.

“The board invited the first team squad and staff out on Monday and we had a good night with them,’’ he added.

“It was very kind of them and again emphasised the spirit within the whole organisation.”
