GARY McSheffrey has not given up hope of a Second Coming at St Andrew’s.

He has been used as an impact substitute, to decent effect, in three of Blues’ last four matches.

And that’s a far cry from the beginning of the season when he couldn’t get a sniff and was put up for transfer.

“I want to play more, of course,” he said. “Coming on for ten minutes here or there, ask anyone, it’s not really good enough.

‘‘But it’s a better situation than I was in back in August when they were looking to off-load me. So at least it is going in the right direction.”

In the Championship McSheffrey missed five months due to a persistent knee problem, which eventually required surgery.
