STUART Parnaby has revealed how his latest injury setback left him fearing for his long-term fitness.

The Blues defender hasn’t played since being stretchered off with a dead leg during the Carling Cup defeat at Sunderland in September.

However, it was a recurring back problem that cropped up in training in the days that followed that has left the versatile Parnaby sidelined and worried for his playing future.

A disc irritation returned, triggering a spasm in his back, to leave him with limited mobility and many sleepless nights due to the pain.

Fortunately, Parnaby has so far managed to avoid an operation, although he is still likely to be out of action for at least another month.

However, while he now appears to be on the road to recovery, given the serious nature of back injuries, the last few weeks have been a period of concern for the 27-year-old.

“This is the most worried I’ve ever been about an injury,” admitted Parnaby, while speaking to the Birmingham Mail at the unveiling of a new AstroTurf pitch at Regents Park Primary School in Small Heath.
